I have big sparkling star on the top of my tree, sometimes I use cone shaped ornament I did myself. My family prefers star ....lol

Well we mostly have used an angel till it finally bit the dust. This year my daughter bought a star.

Our Christmas tree when I was growing up always had this little elf sitting on top - he was sitting on a wrapped up Christmas present, and when I was little, I always wanted to unwrap the little box he sat on to find out what the gift was inside it!
Since I moved out of my parents' house, I haven't had a tree. But I went to their house the other night to help them decorate this year's tree, and they are still using the same little elf on top - he's pretty dusty now.

I most always have a lightning star at the top of my tree.
Last year my ligth was not working at cristmas day, so i went for over one hour to get some new ones, most have my shining star!
