I am writing this in Plantangenent Cherokee and will have it translated to something for my friends to read when I am finished.

My Mother was the strongest, bravest, tenderest, wisest, stateliest, and most beautiful woman I have ever known. To look at her, everyone knew, was to look at nobility at its noblest and its most honorable.
Everything important in Life I learned from her. She started teaching me at the same time she started encouraging me to say "mama" and "dada" and she stopped teaching me the day she was buried.
She taught me to be ashamed of good until I had improved it to excellent.
To be humbled by compliments and grateful for possessing whatever brought them.
To never deceive myself into thinking any of my strong points were of my own doing.
To be as comfortable with peasants as with chiefs ~ truly so with no pretense. The same with animals as with people.
To look down to no one and up to everyone. To seek the best in them all ~ and help them find it.
To hate stupidity but love ignorance, because I could change ignorance into knowledge. To always honor the difference between stupidity and the stupid.
To never ever give up anything worthwhile and to not bother to begin with it if it were not worthwhile.
To never ever give in to surrender ~ but to take short breaks in order to have no part of it.
To never accept the credit for victory ~ but to always give thanks for having been given what it takes to achieve it.
To always be honorable ~ to accept death before anything less than honor ~ and to never dishonor another soul.
My Mother taught me that it is better to murder than to be dishonest. Reason to kill may exist but reason to lie never exists. That more harm to greater numbers is always done by dishonesty than by murder.
That to refuse to give help to anyone in need is reason to give up my own life.
That to lie down at night without having reached a new understanding is to dishonor myself and my people.
That it would be better to be blind than to not appreciate the beauty always present.

And that was only the first lesson. To hopefully make me worthy of those to follow.

Mother, am I, could I, possibly be prepared to carry on as you would expect me to and want me to?
I pray, for your happiness and your honor, that I am and I will.
If my prayer is answered, I know your smile will never end.

RC, The beauty of her soul and love you express has brought me to tears. They are tears of joy for you, that you were so blessed to have such a wise and special woman as your mother. You honor her every day by being the generous, considerate, much loved person that you are. She will live on, in you, and her spirit will continue to touch others by your example.

Those we have lost are only as far away as our memories.

Dear Bobbie, I have been trying to think of the right words to type since you made this wonderful post and I can't do it, I get too emotional. dear bobbie.
that was a tearful tribute to your mother. we all can tell how much you respected and loved her. i am sure that she is looking down from the sky above saying what a wonderful daughter i have raised. she will live on in your heart and spirit. you are still in my prayers hun and God Bless you.

Royal,you are your Mother's daughter for sure.Just knowing you on line shows you live by everything she taught you.Finding the good in all God's creatures improves everyones' life.Your Mom was a very wise and giving lady and anyone who met her is a much better person for it I'm sure.
My prayers are with you during your time of healing.

sorry had to post again.... not very often i read something that actually touches me but ive now read your post several times royal and i dont think i have ever read someones feelings expressed so well.... im sure your mother would be proud of you if she could read it...she sounded such a wonderful lady with an amazing sense of moral values and i can tell she will be sorely missed by not only her family but by everyone that ever had the pleasure of knowing her... and if you just carry on being the way you always have then im sure your mother will be more than pleased at the way her daughter turned out....my thoughts are with you

Royal, I too have been thinking of you. Praying for you and your family, with the loss of your beloved mother. So very sorry for your loss. I know that your mom is very proud of you . What you wrote brought tears to my eyes, and not many things that I read really do. I am at a loss of words as to what to say. I care very deeply and I am thinking of you. That sounds pretty lame compared to what the others have written, but the sentiment is the same.

My precious friends ~

The beautiful way you who posted have accepted my tribute to my Mother means so very much to me.

If it touched you -- you have touched me even more with your own lovingly-expressed and sincere thoughts.

It isn't enough, but all I can say is THANK YOU. I truly love you for posting your own thoughts and feelings.

I can't help but feel that if more of us expressed them, there would be fewer wars and less sorrow in the world.
